REGION ONE INFORMATION - 2012

Everything you ever wanted to know about Region
The Regional Championships are all held on the third full weekend in February each year and athletes in the age groups U8 through to U17 are eligible to compete. Qualifying to the Regional Championships is via performances at the Zone Championships. Download the list of Hornsby qualifiers.
Region One 2012 Championships

The 2011/2012 Season Regional One Championships will be held at Sydney Academy of Sport, Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen, on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February, 2012. |

Any athlete who has qualified to compete at Region but unable to attend should e-mail Marion Mitchell or phone Marion on 0409 826 942 as soon as possible so reserve athletes can be contacted. |
What other Zones and Centres will be competing?
Region 1 comprises 4 Zones, and 23 Centres and Clubs, as follows:

NORTHERN METROPOLITAN ZONE: Hornsby, Parramatta, Ryde, Northern Suburbs, North Rocks/Carlingford and Cherrybrook.

NORTH EAST METROPOLITAN ZONE: Manly-Warringah, Mosman, Ku-Ring-Gai and Northern Suburbs. |
 |
NORTH WEST METROPOLITAN ZONE: Rouse Hill Rams, Hills District, Hawkesbury City, Kings Langley, Winston Hills, Riverstone and Quakers Hill. |
 |
CENTRAL COAST ZONE: Gosford, Wyong, Terrigal-Wamberal, Tuggerah Lakes Mingara, Woy Woy Peninsula and Toukley. |
What time should I get there?
 |
Saturday 18 - 1500m runs will commence at 8:00am with 1st call at 7:45am. The Field events will commence at 8.30am after 1st call at 8:15am. |

Sunday 19 - Walks will commence at 8:00am after 1st call at 7:45am. The Field events will commence at 8.30am after 1st call at 8:15am. |
 |
Javelin will not commence before 10am on Saturday/Sunday.

First event on both days - athletes to go directly to the event to be marshalled.
|

Travelling time from Pennant Hills is about 40 minutes. Allow a further 10 minutes to Park and walk into the complex.

The venue will open on Saturday and Sunday at 6:30am.
|
What will it cost?
 |
Region Levy of $4.00 per competing athlete. This cost will be met by HDLAC for Hornsby athletes. |
 |
Printed Region Program at $5.00 will be available for purchase from the Information Tent at the venue. |
 |
There is no 'gate' charge to get into the venue. |
How do I get to Sydney Academy of Sport?
Driving directions will be added shortly.

Shade from the sun or shelter from the rain?
A number of sections in the stadium at Narrabeen are available for our use.
In addition, HDLAC will be providing two of our shade shelters for the use of our athletes.
What are the Region ‘Must Haves’?

Over-shirt for athlete and a jacket in case the weather turns feral. Throw in an umbrella as well. We will be setting up our shade shelters for use by athletes and parents during the carnival. |

Athlete H2O* bottle (*water) |
 |
Extra (additional) cold H2O* / cold drinks to prevent dehydration - it can be very hot |

Food suitable for athletes. (Usual canteen food and sausage sizzles are probably OK for spectators but generally not suitable for competing athletes.) |
What events is my athlete entered in?
What are the Region uniform requirements?
 |
It goes without saying that all athletes will be attired in their HDLAC uniform with athlete number and age patch attached correctly. |

Athletes also require a Centre number 4 attached to the back of their uniform. Refer to the Uniform page of our Website. |

Compression pants - 'Uniform' black (one colour) above the knee ONLY can be worn under Centre athletic shorts. NO ‘skins’ permitted. |

An embroidered IGA patch is required on every athlete's uniform.
LAANSW has indicated all Regional competitors must have this patch attached on the upper right side of their singlet or crop top.
These patches were issued by LAANSW to all Centres in December and can be obtained from the Championships Officer or from Marion Mitchell on 0409 826 942.

Can my athlete wear metal spikes?

Metal spikes can be worn. They must be ‘TARTAN’ type ONLY. |

Track events- up to 7mm. |
 |
Field events (Javelin, HJ, LJ, TJ) - up to 9mm. |
Printed Programmes
Printed Region Program will be available for $5.00 from the Information Tent at the venue.
Overnight security
SAS will be available for setup on Friday 17 February and there will be overnight security for both Friday and Saturday. There are restrictions on tent / shade locations so you should ask before getting too comfortable.
State T-Shirt orders
If an athletes qualifies at Region for State Championships and wishes to purchase a State T-Shirt, they will need to be sized by trying samples available at the Information tent at Region and inform Marion Mitchell of their size and give her $20.00 by the end of competition on Sunday 19 February. T-Shirts will be collected at the State Championships.
Parent duties
A list of parents' duties will be available shortly. However, volunteers are needed (from parents attending Region next weekend) to assist with the transport and setting up of two of our shade shelters. If you have a suitable vehicle or trailer and are able to help, please contact Marion Mitchell on 0409-826-942.
