State Relays 24-25 November 2012
The first of the major events for the Little Athletics season is fast approaching. State Relay Championships will be held at SOPAC (Homebush) on Saturday & Sunday 24 & 25 November 2012. Events for juniors (U8 – U11) take place on the Saturday, whilst seniors (U12 – U17) compete on the Sunday. Some basic info is below. More detailed information can be found on the NSW Little Athletics website.
Our centre has to nominate teams by October 24th and more information will be available from tomorrow via either myself or your little athlete’s age manager. We can nominate teams based on indicative numbers, however, we need to be accurate as each team entered has a cost, which is covered by the centre. Obviously though we do not want to waste funds by over-entering. State Relay Championships cover all events, including running, jumping and throwing. There are sprint events, 400m events as well as a middle distance relay. There are also mixed events in some cases.
The criteria for selection takes into consideration results from this year’s centre competition at Hornsby. For example in age x - if we are to enter a 4 x 100m relay team we would look to enter the athlete’s with the 4 best times. Criteria from the State Little A’s dictates that in juniors (U8 – U11) an athlete can compete in a track event or in a field event but not both. This is not the case in senior’s where an athlete can compete in both. There is other such criteria that is designed to provide as much opportunity for participation as possible.
Your age manager will start looking at putting teams together from tomorrow. It would be fantastic if you could be aware of the dates and your schedule, this will make the process as smooth as possible for the respective age managers.
State Relays are a fun event and one of the few chances the kids get to compete as a relay team. For those selected it is also an opportunity to compete at Sydney’s premier athletic stadium.
